Youth Squad: Training to Train (Building the Engine)
Youth Squad is the 2nd evolutionary step and continuation of development squad. In youth swimmers build upon what was learnt at the ‘Development’ level and move more towards the competitive skills required in racing. At this time swimmers are expected to commit and attend a minimum of two sessions a week as this enhances development which becomes more prominent as swimmers begin to compete at competitive galas. All swimmers are encouraged to invest in training aids such as kick board, pull buoy, paddles and fins.
Elite Squad: Training to Compete (Optimising the Engine)
Elite Squad is the current final section of Aqua Competitive Squads and is the 3rd step in the swimmer development. At this stage swimmers have begun to hone in on perfecting their swim and race skills, swimmers are expected to have a good understanding of all strokes using both basic & advanced techniques. In agreeance with the leading coach swimmers must complete goal settings exercises and attend a minimum of 3 sessions per week. Upon being selected to join the Elite Squad swimmers will undergo a 1 month trial to assess a swimmer’s suitability. In conjunction with this trial period and goal setting swimmers will track and monitor their progress throughout each season.
It is a requirement that all swimmers in Elite Squad bring the following items to each training session:
